Located in Norway, north of the Arctic Circle, the magnificent Lofoten Islands are one of the most awe-inspiring locations in the world. Truly, a landscape photographer's dream.

A highlight of Lofoten, this is the idyllic township of Reine. The nearby town of Hamnoy can also be seen over the bridge in the distance.

I have visited Reine every Winter for a couple of years, each time praying for a calm day with reflections on the fjord. During the harsh Arctic Winter, this is very rare indeed!

The red cabins you can see are Rorbu; traditional Norwegian Fisherman's cottages. While visiting Reine I have had the privilege of staying in these Rorbu, making for a truly authentic Norwegian experience.

This particular Winter morning I had recently wrapped up our 2019 Lofoten Islands Photography Tour and was staying on with some friends to do some shooting for ourselves. We awoke after a day of heavy snow to cold but incredible conditions, the soft pastel tones of sunrise filling the sky and not a breath of wind!

We raced to the nearby Reine View lookout and were greeted with beautiful reflections on the fjord. I couldn't settle on a composition from the lookout so I hastily climbed down the steep, slippery cliff across icy rocks and through deep snow drifts. I tried a number of different positions until I discovered this stunning vantage point from on top of a large boulder.

As the light peaked, I captured this incredible scene, then commenced the ascent back up to the lookout with a huge smile on my face. What an amazing experience!
