While visiting Cairns for the third time, I was watching the weather intensely to see if I could find a window of calm enough wind and clear skies to do another helicopter charter over the Great Barrier Reef. My prayers were answered and the second week I found a weekday with promising conditions.
I organised a private helicopter charter with Internationally renowned pilot Chris Rose. Chris is well known for his work on television/movie productions such as Baz Luhrmann's Australia, Thin Red Line, Paradise Road, A Cry In The Dark, Mary Bryant, Sea Patrol & more. He was fantastic to work with and certainly knew the best angles and altitudes for what I was after.
I shot a number of locations while in the air, but the main focus of the charter was to get a stunning aerial shot of Upolu Cay with the beautiful colours of the reef and water that surrounds it. When we arrived I couldn't believe how perfect the conditions were, plus unbelievably there was no-one on the cay!
We did a couple of laps around Upolu Cay at different altitudes and I captured this stunning photograph on the second lap.
